Lesson 2 of 3Eye Contact Guidelines
Navigate the complex social rules around eye contact in different situations.
The Eye Contact Balance
Eye contact is one of the most discussed aspects of social interaction for people with autism. The key insight is that there's a comfortable middle ground between no eye contact and constant staring.
General guideline: During a conversation, aim to make eye contact about 50-60% of the time while listening, and about 40-50% while speaking. It's natural to look away when thinking or formulating your response.
