Turn-Taking and Interrupting

Understand the rhythm of conversation and how to manage speaking turns.

The Natural Rhythm of Conversation

Conversations have a natural rhythm of turn-taking. In neurotypical communication, people use subtle cues to signal when they're done speaking:

- Lowering their voice at the end of a sentence - Making eye contact with the listener - Using phrases like "you know?" or "what do you think?" - A brief pause after completing a thought

Recognizing these cues helps you know when it's your turn to speak.
