Lesson 2 of 5Keeping a Conversation Going
Techniques for maintaining engaging dialogue through active listening and follow-up questions.
The Conversation Flow
A good conversation is like a tennis match — the ball goes back and forth. The key skills are:
- Active listening: Show you're paying attention through nodding, brief verbal cues ("I see", "That's interesting"), and eye contact. - Follow-up questions: Build on what the other person says rather than changing the topic. - Sharing related experiences: After listening, share something relevant from your own life to create connection.
